Pre-K and Kindergarten students are introduced to basic computer skills such as mouse usage and navigation of educational websites while building foundational typing skills through interactive games.
As students progress through 1st and 2nd grades, they continue to improve their typing abilities while being introduced to basic coding skills, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking.
From 3rd to 5th grade, students enhance their proficiency in typing and coding while incorporating creative tasks using Google Workspace apps. By the 5th grade, students are also introduced to basic text coding and MLA formatting.
In 6th through 8th grades, students further advance their typing skills and dive into JavaScript and Python programming skills using Google Workspace for advanced projects, research, MLA writing, and basic website design.
The goal of Holy Name’s art program is to introduce elements of art as it relates to other academic subjects taught at different grade levels. The principles of design include patterns, repetition, balance contrast and variety. We also include 2D and 3D materials, primary and secondary colors, and cool and warm tones to create artwork. To appreciate the many aspects of art, we also study many important works of art.
Our goal for students is to develop basic motor skills, coordination, teamwork, confidence building, and a love for physical activity. Some specific skills are locomotor skills, ball skills, body awareness, coordination and balance, teamwork and sportsmanship. Our teaching methodology is play based learning which is developmentally appropriate, engages in physical activity, structured as games, and includes an emphasis on teamwork and cooperation.
Beginning in Pre-K3, students are exposed to different types and styles of music. They build their skills in singing, reading music, and playing beginning instruments. Students also explore rhythms, beats, performance techniques and movement. All grades perform a Christmas concert in December.
