Return to School Plan

Here at Holy Name School, we have been seeking the guidance of other schools, our Catholic School office, state and local education authorities, and always listening to guidance that can only be found through prayer and reflection. Our efforts are focused on the continued education of your child in the wonderful faith-filled community that defines Holy Name School.

We are excited to be passing on more details about what our return to school at Holy Name will look like. We appreciate your support through this very complex process and know that with continued planning and the devotion of your children's teachers that Holy Name will be positioned to approach learning in September in a careful, safe, and healthy manner as possible.

Please take a moment to review our return to school plan in its entirety.

Statement from Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha on Racism

The past week in our country has been trying, disturbing, and difficult. We shared understandable concern and anxiety as we took the first steps toward a reopening of our pandemic-shuttered society. We rejoiced with the reopening of our churches. At the same time, we have been shocked and shaken as we witnessed in horror the senseless killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the national protest that followed. In its aftermath, we have seen understandable outrage expressed by so many people, renewed questions of racism, and at times hate and anger that has led to violence and destruction.

We invite you to read the rest of this statement from Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha in full.

Wardell Scholarship Application

The Dr. Patricia M. Wardell Scholarship was established in 2019. Dr. Wardell worked over 50 years in the field of education, serving the last 14 years of her career as Principal of Holy Name School. During this time, she was constantly devoted to ensuring the school was centered on Jesus Christ and the students attained academic excellence rooted in Catholic values, with a commitment to helping others.

In her honor, the Dr. Patricia M. Wardell Scholarship is awarded each year to a rising middle school student, to be applied to tuition for the forthcoming school year. Applicants will submit a brief essay on “How has Holy Name School helped with your faith and how do you show your faith by helping others?” A committee will conduct a blind-review of essays to determine the recipient.

For more information on requirements, the amount received, and the deadline, please view the Wardell scholarship application flyer.

Dr. Wardell Prayer Card

On February 11 we sent home a prayer card for Dr. Wardell to all families. We realize that not everyone had the opportunity to get one and we wanted to be sure that everyone has one. She was a fantastic leader for our school and role model for our students. Please feel free to send in a donation to the scholarship fund we set up in Dr. Wardell’s memory. There is no better way to honor her legacy than to donate to the fund that will help less fortunate children enjoy our school. Please make checks payable to the Dr. Wardell Scholarship Fund. You may also view and print off the prayer card by viewing this flyer.

New School Policies

Fifth through eighth-grade students, Mr. Flanagan has kindly agreed to authorize a couple of changes in the school protocol.

First, is a modification to the phone rule. Students are now allowed to use their phones when they get to school, however, all phones need to be in the office by the time morning prayer begins. Students may use their phones again after the school day has ended, except for those going to homework club. Secondly, students in grades fifth through eighth are now allowed to wear nail polish.

These generous changes made by Mr. Flanagan go into effect on February 5. Please see the new student policies flyer for additional information.

Attention Middle Schoolers

Mr. Flanagan is allowing all middle school students to use a regular backpack to carry books and learning materials between classes. Please note, rolling bags and drawstring bags are not allowed. Please see our backpack flyer. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
